ANNAPOLIS OPERA COMPANY OPENS WITH CONCERT OF STARS

The Annapolis Opera’s 38th season opens on Saturday, October 23, with Concert of Stars, featuring four of the most memorable singers from past seasons in a program of beloved operatic arias, duets, and ensembles. The 8:00 p.m. concert will be in the Key Auditorium at St. John’s College.

Headlining the concert is Annapolis’ own Jason Stearns, returning this year for his third season at New York’s Metropolitan Opera after acclaimed performances in major opera houses in the U.S. and Europe.

Stearns has steadily built an international reputation as a distinguished interpreter of the unique and challenging roles in the dramatic baritone repertoire. Mr. Stearns has recently made critically acclaimed appearances with the Metropolitan Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Ravinia and Savonlinna Festivals, the Los Angeles Opera, and Den Norske Opera in Oslo.

Joining Stearns on the concert stage is Jonathan Burton, the stunning Cavaradossi in Annapolis Opera’s production of Tosca last season. Colleen Daly and Carla Dirlikov round out the evening’s cast of singers. Daly is a fabulous soprano and Annapolis Opera favorite. Dirlikov, a mezzo soprano who sang Rosina in our production of Barber of Seville, is fresh from debuts last year at both Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

Annapolis Opera’s artistic director and conductor, Maestro Ron Gretz, will provide commentary and piano accompaniment for the program.
