24th Annual Vocal Competition

Annapolis Opera’s 39th season includes the much anticipated 24th Annual Vocal Competition.

Annapolis Opera’s Vocal Competition gives opera students and young professionals in the Mid-Atlantic region the opportunity to hone their craft by performing for a blue-ribbon panel of judges comprised of respected music educators and opera performers. It also gives Music Director Ron Gretz a chance to discover new talent for upcoming Annapolis Opera productions. The competition is fierce, with the eight finalists selected from more than 100 outstanding applicants! Prizes total more than $10,000, with each finalist receiving from $500 to $2,500. In addition, the Grand Prize winner is invited to return for a recital evening opening the 2013 competition weekend.

The semi-finals vocal competition, open to the public for the first time will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 from 10am to 5pm. The Finals concert will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 2 p.m. All performances will be held at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.

Admission to the Semi-finals and Finals both performances is FREE, due to a generous grant from The Helena Foundation, Jim and Sylvia Earl.

*The March 16, 2012 recital by the 2011 winner, tenor Zach Borichevsky has been cancelled.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Annapolis Opera is no longer accepting applications for the 24th Annual Vocal Competition. Applicants that have already submitted their applications will be notified by February 17 of the results of the Preliminary CD-round and further selection of semi-finalists.
